Sheriff Scott named 2013 elected official of the year

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott was named the 2013 elected official of the year Thursday by the National Association of Social Workers' Southwest Florida chapter.

As reasons for the award, the group cited Scott's help creating the Lee Elder Abuse Prevention Partnership, which is a coalition of agencies promoting awareness of elder abuse, and the Teen Driver Challenge, a free course meant to reduce teen traffic fatalities.

Scott will be honored at a March 13 celebration at the Crown Plaza hotel at the Bell Tower plaza.
