An East Naples man was arrested early Thursday on accusations of DUI after Collier deputies found him passed out in his car in line for a McDonald's drive-thru.
An employee at the McDonald's at 5465 Airport Road called the Sheriff's Office after noticing Joshua Zachary Higgins, 24, sleeping in the driver's seat, according to an arrest report. A responding deputy tried to wake Higgins by banging on the windows, roof and sunroof to get his attention, but Higgins would not wake up.
The deputy then began tapping the driver's arm and shaking his shoulder, with no effect. When Higgins finally awoke, the deputy said he was lethargic and smelled "very strongly" of alcohol.
Higgins gave the deputy his bank card instead of his driver's license and answered the deputy's questions with nonsensical answers, like saying his "voice was going to leave me" when asked what was going on, reports said.
At the Naples Jail Center, Higgins' breath samples showed a blood-alcohol levels of .203 and .215. Higgins, of the 3300 block of Timberwood Circle, faces a charge of DUI second offense.
