With respect to President Obama’s eminent gun legislation, I will reserve my judgment until I see what the President has in mind as tougher regulations, not restrictions, may be in good form. However, I believe New York Governor Cuomo showed ignorance based on misinformation regarding assault rifles and magazine capacity.
Gun control schemes have failed in the past and unfortunately, as history has proven, will have no impact on public safety and crime. Sadly, the New York Legislature gave no consideration to this reality. To quote … “Ordinary citizens don’t need guns, as their having guns doesn’t serve the State.” No, this isn’t a quote from Governor Cuomo; it’s a quote from Heinrich Himmler.
While lawmakers could have taken a step toward strengthening mental health reporting, mandatory training for new gun owners and more importantly, focusing on criminals, they opted for trampling on the rights of law-abiding gun owners in New York, and they did it with absolutely no public input. Cuomo’s version of gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by taking cars away from sober people.

As a free nation we should be concerned when our government even insinuates the disarming of law abiding citizens. Whether an individual owns a weapon for self-defense, hunting or is a sportsman, we must respect The Second Amendment, the right to bear arms shall not be infringed!!

Progressives will destroy safety ironically under the mantle of safety for the greater good. The role of government should be to secure OUR safety NOT limit OUR safety by those who seek to kill, rob, rape or simply harass us by defining the number of rounds in a clip to essentially impact almost every semi-automatic NOT just military assault type.
Wake up folks, its NOT about safety. If it was, we would NOT have gun-free zones in some public places. And we have evidence of the impact of gun-free zones the size of cities, ie. Chicago, Washington for historical reference.
