One killed after vehicle crashes into tree, catches fire in Bonita

— One person was killed Tuesday night after driving into a tree in Bonita Springs.

The driver of the vehicle drove into the woods near Liberty Youth Ranch Way and Wellfield Road just after 8 p.m., said Lee County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Tiffany Wood.

"The vehicle caught fire," Wood said. "When we got out to the scene, the person who was in the vehicle was deceased."

During the investigation, it was found that the vehicle was involved in a single-car crash. The vehicle hit trees in the wooded area and caught fire, the Sheriff’s Office reports.

The person inside the vehicle has not yet been identified and neither has the vehicle. The investigation continues.
