A Fort Myers man is accused of breaking into a car in East Naples, then using stolen loose change to buy food at a nearby Taco Bell.

Around 8:30 p.m., two employees at the Tropical Smoothie at 5016 Airport-Pulling Road said they saw a man in a gray hoodie breaking into one of their cars in the parking lot. The car's owner chased down the suspect until he caught up with him in front of a frozen yogurt shop across the street, according to an arrest report.

The car's owner told the man, later identified as Merritt Mason Potter, to drop his stuff, and he was able to take back his Android phone and phone charger. After dropping the items, Potter ran toward the intersection of Pine Ridge and Airport-Pulling roads, reports said.

Deputies later found Potter inside a nearby Taco Bell. The 25-year-old told them he stole the loose change so he could get something to eat.

Potter, of the 12300 block of Woodrose Court, faces charges of burglary and grand theft.
