Crash closes Immokalee Road in Golden Gate Estates

Two drivers were hospitalized with minor injuries after a crash Friday afternoon in Golden Gate Estates.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Herve Jean-Mary, 56, of Naples, was waiting behind a stopped school bus unloading children on Immokalee Road near Friendship Lane when a pickup driven by Eriber Maldonado, 26, of Immokalee, rear ended him.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol was not suspected as a factor in the crash, according to a trooper's report.

Both drivers were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Maldonado was cited for careless driving.

Both lanes of Immokalee Road near Everglades Boulevard in Golden Gate Estates are closed due to an overturned vehicle.

Collier County sheriff's officials said the crash occurred near Davenport's Nursery, 19404 Immokalee Road. Florida Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched at about 3:50 p.m.

Drivers are being directed to take Oil Well and Oil Well Grade roads as a detour.

No information was immediately available about any injuries.
