Editorial: Wine festival

The Naples Winter Wine Festival does it again.

Over the weekend, the event raised $8.5 million, bringing the total since 2001 to more than $115 million.

While the 2013 amount is short of a record, the event still raised enough money to make a serious difference in the lives of local children and their families.

In the past, festival proceeds have focused on dental and other medical care and education. This year the organization laid groundwork to reach into mental health services as well.

Thus, a world-class community benefactor is not content to rest on its laurels. It looks for ways to get better.

Our area is proud and pleased to host such a great event.

As we like to point out, wine festival patrons could select anywhere in the world for their activities, and they choose Naples.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who worked on and attended this year's Naples Winter Wine Festival.

Many happy returns.

"Miraculous'' this year was added to this list of wine fesival adjectives.

We would add one more -- a word we use sparingly.
