Florida DCF keeps custody of missing baby's siblings after bones found

HALLANDALE BEACH — Two brothers of a missing baby who is presumed dead will remain in state custody following a custody hearing.

The Florida Department of Children and Families took the boys into state care following the arrests of their parents earlier this month. Brittney Sierra and Calvin Melvin are in the Broward County Jail, charged with child neglect in the case of 5-month-old Dontrell Melvin who was last seen in 2011 when he was 6 months old.

DCF spokeswoman Paige Patterson-Hughes told The Miami Herald nothing has changed in terms of the boys' custody. Sierra's half siblings who lived in the same house were taken into state care.

Authorities have found bones believed to be those of Dontrell were found in the backyard of a home the couple had rented.
