It's Your Business: Collier visitors increase by nearly 6 percent

Collier County saw more than 1.57 million visitors last year, up 5.6 percent from 2011.

There were 1,573,000 visitors staying in hotels and other vacation rentals last year, according to county consultant Research Data Services Inc., based in Tampa.

Those visitors:

Had an economic impact of more than $1.4 billion, up more than 11 percent from 2011;

Booked nearly 2.3 million room nights, up 3.5 percent over the year.

Part of the increase last year came from an uptick in visitation from Europe, which rose more than 18 percent over 2011. Canada visitation was up more than 28 percent and, from the Midwest, it rose 8.8 percent over the year.

In December, the county saw 126,400 visitors, up 3.6 percent from a year ago. The economic impact from those visitors rose 8.9 percent to more than $128.4 million.

RSW nonstop flights to Trenton begin Thursday

Nonstop service between Fort Myers and Trenton, N.J., begins Thursday.

Denver-based Frontier Airlines twice weekly — between Thursdays and Sundays — will operate flights from Southwest Florida International Airport to Trenton-Mercer Airport, which has TTN as its airport code. This marks the first time Southwest Florida International (RSW) will offer nonstop service to Trenton, the state capital of New Jersey. This inaugural flight will arrive at RSW at 5:25 p.m. and depart at 5:35 p.m.

Women's Realtors group installs officers

The Women's Council of Realtors, Naples-on-the-Gulf Chapter, recently installed its officers for 2013 in a ceremony at Naples Bay Resort and Yacht Club.

Lynn Bower was elected 2013 president; Jeannette Batten is president-elect; Karen Kohler is secretary; treasurer is Mary Adams; Laurie Leppo is assistant treasurer; Christine Citrano is the vice president of membership and SueAnn Zornes is vice president of affiliate membership.
