Man accused of assaulting brother's ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend

A Golden Gate man is accused of battering his brother's ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend Wednesday morning.

The victim told Collier deputies he was sitting on his lanai on the 400 block of Second Street Southeast when two men ran up to him with a handgun. The men told him to kneel down and they knocked him to the ground and kicked him, according to an arrest report.

While one of the men pointed the gun at him, another smashed a ceramic lawn ornament on his head, reports said. The victim told deputies he recognized one of the men as his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend's brother, Mario R. Cepero-Ricardo.

Deputies later located the getaway vehicle at a grocery store at Collier Boulevard and Pine Ridge Road, according to reports. Cepero-Ricardo admitted to knowing the victim but denied any knowledge of the assault.

Cepero-Ricardo, 19, of an unknown address on Noah's Landing in Golden Gate, faces charges of armed burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

An accomplice mentioned in reports had not been arrested as of Thursday. A Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing.
