— Tuesday's brief bouts of sunshine shed light on sad sights along Collier County's beaches.

The county said rain and strong surf destroyed at least 17 sea turtle nests (two each at Barefoot, Park Shore and Naples Beaches, five on Marco Island and six at Vanderbilt Beach). That's roughly 1,700 eggs gone in just two days.

"I've never heard of any being destroyed that's sad," said beachgoer Rebecca Hamby from Georgia.
