Letter to the Editor: Sign the petition to save the mini-golf course

While MICA is a respected Association of Marco Island, a number of Islanders are unhappy with MICA’s legal action to close Marco Golf & Garden.

Many of these Islanders are MICA members!

Sign the petition. Let MICA know you are unhappy with their action. Ask that they allow Marco Golf and Garden to reopen.

Petition information/location e-mail vbingle@naples.net.

Respectfully submitted ...

Virginia Bingle

Get rid of MICA....no way. Who would watch over and protect what is left of our island

Ms. Bingle,

It is not up to MICA to decide the outcome of this case. MICA's job is to ENFORCE the deed restrictions which are on the books. That is their job!

If the deed restricts follow the law a petition is not worth the paper it is written upon. I believe that deed restrictions can only be changed by a court of law and that may be quite difficult to say the least.

How about our elected officials? We are a city. Why do we need a civic association of "appointed" figure heads? We have a city council. I believe we are paying our elected officials to do this job.

Bumom,

A putt, putt course built in the correct location that permits such would have been just as much fun. Breaking the law deliberately has nothing to do with fun, it has more to do with arrogance. Gee officer I was having fun, doesn't cut it.

It is very interesting to know that there are "hundreds" who are willing to have the law broken by signing a petition. That truly makes me laugh!

Nice try but the petition means nothing when it comes to deed restrictions.

WMissow writes:

It is interesting how many people will rally round someone who appeared to be cheating than one who plays by the rules just so they can get a momentary laugh without thinking of the long term consequences of their actions.

Sad to say this attitude has infiltrated our society and many accept it as the norm.

Miss - It's not the law, it's the ridiculous penalty. That's the real reason why people are rallying to support the business and criticize MICA's actions. Such a shame. MICA had a chance to be a good steward, but failed. We're a city now, time to do away with MICA. Just another redundant organization.

WMissow writes:

The reason that "some" people are rallying is that they can not see the future harm which will occur if deed restrictions are ignored.

Like most things you can get people to rally based upon emotions especially when they do not truly and completely understand the ramifications of their actions.

Yes, it is the LAW and that is why the courts are being involved and to make it anything other than that is being blind to the facts.

You may think that the penalty may be too much, but the Kramers took the big gamble, which was their choice, and very well may lose all that they have invested in that gamble.

It happens to the best of us.
