A Pennsylvania woman was taken to a Naples-area hospital this afternoon following a lightning strike on Marco Island.

Fire Chief Mike Murphy said lightning struck near the woman, but police Capt. Dave Baer said officials still were trying to confirm if lightning directly or indirectly struck her.

First responders were dispatched to an area near the Marco Beach Ocean Resort, 480 S. Collier Blvd. around 3 p.m.

Murphy and Baer said they were unable to release information about the woman’s condition, citing medical privacy laws.
