Teenager critical after being hit by car in Golden Gate Estates

A 16-year-old Golden Gate Estates teenager is in critical condition at Lee Memorial Hospital after he was hit by a car Monday morning.

Mack A. Simpreux, 16, was standing on the west grass shoulder of southbound Everglades Boulevard, south of 31st Avenue Northeast when he was struck by a 2007 Toyota Prius driven by Charles Naumoff, 72, about 6:25 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to police reports, Naumoff was in the right turn lane on Everglades Boulevard when he failed to turn right and continued to travel south, passing the intersection where Simpreux was standing. The right front of Naumoff's vehicle struck Simpreux, sending him airborne, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Simpreux landed next to a shallow, water-filled ditch, according to the report. Naumoff removed the boy from the ditch, according to reports.

Naumoff was charged with careless driving.
