The chief of the East Naples and Golden Gate fire departments has been named Florida’s Fire Chief of the Year.
Chief Kingman Schuldt was selected at an annual convention of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association. The award honors a chief who serves as an example and sets the bar for fire chiefs across the state.
The award committee considered activities and accomplishments from 2012 to the first part of 2013. In April, the Golden Gate and East Naples fire departments merged after years of consolidation discussions. Schuldt, who had been fire chief at East Naples, began to oversee both departments.
Assistant Chief Nolan Sapp said he was unaware of any other fire chiefs in Collier County receiving the honor.
“We’re very pleased that he represents both Golden Gate and East Naples and is doing a fine job with both of these organizations,” Sapp said.
