Letter to the Editor: The rules that govern MICA

I’m confused and disappointed. The city and MICA are at war. This project was approved by the city, the zoning board and the City Council, who also approved it for Ron and Julia Smith, who did get MICA’s “blessing.” I was not aware that the entire island is part of a homeowners association and subject to the rules of MICA’s architectural review committee, who can overrule the city, the zoning board, and the City Council. I’d love to see the bylaws and rules that govern MICA.

It’s time for the city to establish a set of rules that will work for everyone, ensuring that MICA’s approval is obtained before approval and permits are issued.

Handle this legally and avoid all the pain and bad publicity. I don’t want anyone to get caught between these two warring factions.
