Anthony “Bud” and Ruth LaMendola renewed their vows in celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary on Sunday at San Marco Catholic Church.

The Rev. Tim Navin presided, extolling their participation in the church. Both have served as ushers for 35 years. Bud is a life member of the San Marco Knights of Columbus.

When LaMendola retired from the General Telephone % Electric in Chicago he and Ruth moved to Isles of Capri in 1978. The LaMendola led in the development of Tarpon Village, with brother Mario the designer and brother-in-law Al Schulik in charge of construction.

In reminiscing on their wedding Ruth spoke of her night before the wedding. Her bath tub was full of vegetables which did not allow her to take a bath.

“IN those days you didn’t have a caterer, you did it yourself,” Bud said. “We cooked all the food and vegetables for the reception.”

Ruth’s wedding dress cost $65.

After the wedding the wedding party were going to a location for photos when their car broke down. A member of the party had to catch a trolley in Chicago to get another car.

The LaMendolas have a son, Mark, Lyndenhurst, Il. and daughter, Peggy, West Fork, Ark.

A reception was held at the Sunset Grille.
