More than 20 teams strapping up for Kickoff Classic

The first-year Southwest Florida Youth Football League (SWFYFL) is going big, hosting its first Kickoff Classic, with more than 20 teams competing on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11.

The Classic will be at Fort Myers High School. Area teams include Naples Gators, South Naples Pirates, Golden Gate Tigers, Dunbar Rattlers and, Lee County Hawks.

Miami Springs Hawks, Sunniland Sun Devils, Washington Park Buccaneers, Wynnewood Seahawks and Miami Gardens are among those from outside the area.

The teams are from the SWFYFL, Miami Extreme Football League and the Florida Youth Football League.

“Teams love coming to Southwest Florida,” said Steve Quinn, coordinator of the event for Football University. “They make a weekend of it, competing and enjoying what Southwest Florida has to offer.”

There will not be a winner. It will be a round-robin event, with teams playing 6-and-under, 8U, 10U, 12U and 15U categories.

For each contest there will be two 10-minute quarters, stopping the clock only for water breaks and injuries, with a two-minute halftime. There will be no special teams. The first and second half will start with the ball on the 35-yard line.

Admission is $6 for those over 13, $2 for 13 and under and free for 6 and under. One ticket is good for the entire day. For tickets in advance go to www.swflyouthfootball.com, or call 239-431-5793.
