Three men were arrested after authorities say they attempted to cash fraudulent checks at an East Naples bank.
On Thursday afternoon, a manager at Bank of America, 7305 Radio Road, cashed a check for $4,800.55 to Yasmani Moreno, 33, according to an arrest report. About 15 minutes later, another man, Jorge Guerrero Jr., came in and tried to cash a check for $4,900 from the same account holders as Moreno’s check.
Bank employees grew suspicious and called the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, which sent a plain-clothes detectives. Guerrero, 22, was arrested in the lobby.
Guerrero told deputies he and two others had traveled from Miami in a black Ford Mustang. Shortly after, the Mustang drove past the bank and deputies were able to stop the car.
Detectives called the account holder, who said she did not know the men and did not write any checks to them. Moreno, Guerrero and the Mustang’s driver, Yenier Espinosa, were arrested.
Moreno denied cashing a fraudulent check, despite the bank manager identifying him, arrest reports said. Espinosa, 21, said he was just the driver and was doing it for the $300 he was promised, deputies reported.
All three men face felony charges of scheme to defraud under $20,000.
