— A woman died Monday morning after firefighters responded to a call of a smoke detector going off at her RV, East Naples Fire Chief Kingman Schuldt said.

The fire department received the call about 3 a.m. at Signature Motorcoach Resort, 13300 U.S. 41 East at Greystone Boulevard, east of Collier Boulevard. The woman was found by responders outside her RV in cardiac arrest, Schuldt said.

The victim and another man in the RV are seasonal residents, Schuldt said. Their names and relation to each other weren't immediately available.

Schuldt said responders found a "light haze" in the RV but didn't need to put a fire. The state fire marshal is investigating because local fire officials must notify the state of any death involving a fire call. No criminal investigation has been opened, a Collier County sheriff's spokeswoman said.
