The ex-husband of a slain Lee County middle school teacher is now named on a warrant in connection with her death.
On Monday, detectives were granted the warrant for the arrest of Daniel Proctor on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Amy Patterson, of Bokeelia. In Florida, only a grand jury may indict a suspect on a charge of first-degree murder.
Proctor is serving a life sentence in Alabama for grand theft but will be extradited back to Florida as soon as possible, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Patterson, 41, was reported missing when she did not show up for the start of the school year on July 25, 2011. Detectives suspected Proctor, who stole her car, which later was found in Alabama.
Patterson’s body was found last August in a wooded area near Howard Road and Bahama Way in Bokeelia after Proctor confessed and told investigators where they could find her. It’s still unclear how she died.
