Man dies after struck by pickup in Fort Myers Beach

— A 67-year-old man died after being struck by a pickup truck Wednesday night in Fort Myers Beach.

Gary Alan Pollock of Fort Myers Beach was crossing San Carlos Boulevard when he was hit in the westbound lanes by a 2002 Toyota Tundra driven by 19-year-old Steven Tyler Bradley, also of Fort Myers Beach. The crash occurred about 9:50 p.m. about 500 feet east of Main Street, the Lee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Pollack was critically injured and taken to HealthPark Medical Center in Fort Myers, where he died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. Detectives have determined that the pedestrian was at fault for violation of right of way and are awaiting toxicology reports, as alcohol may have been a factor, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The right front headlight area of the truck hit Pollock, knocking him to the curb on the north side of the roadway. The driver did not see the man, who was wearing dark clothing, but he felt the impact, stopped his truck and immediately went back and found Pollack in the roadway, the Sheriff’s Office.

The traffic homicide investigation continues.
