NAPLES — The Great Outdoors this weekend should indeed be great.
Sunny skies are forecast with a high today of around 80 degrees, according to meteorologists at news partner NBC-2.
Meanwhile, the red tide that has been plaguing Southwest Florida's coast for weeks isn't present, according to results released Friday by the Collier County Natural Resources department. Tests taken Thursday showed no red tide at Barefoot Beach, south Marco Island beach, Vanderbilt Beach, Naples Pier and Seagate.
While red tide isn't present along the beach, the Natural Resources staff did caution in a statement that "satellite imagery is still tracking patches of high to very high chlorophyll levels along and offshore of Collier County. Winds will be variable through the weekend. Respiratory impacts may still be possible any day the winds are blowing onshore."
The statement said there have been no reports of dead fish since March 4 and no reports of respiratory irritation since Feb. 28.
Meteorologists said temperatures will drop quickly tonight after sunset and dip overnight into the lower to mid-50s.
Sunday, there should be highs in the lower 80s inland but mid- to upper-70s along the coast.
Tuesday is the next likely day there could be rain, forecasters said.
