Letter to the Editor: Let’s see

Yah, lets see if Marco Island’s City Council is supportive of Jeb Bush’s position on denying illegal immigrants citizenship? That is a issue that City Council will be considering at their Monday, March 18, meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m.

As you may know, Jeb Bush has been reported to support creating “a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants who live in the U.S. and agree to plead guilty to a crime of illegal entry.” But, he also feels “legal status should not include citizenship (since) offering a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants who live in the U.S. could encourage more illegal immigration and undermine the nation’s laws.”

Seems reasonable! Recognize they are here (there is no practicable way to deport them all) and create disincentives for more to come, but don’t reward them with the right to vote. Shouldn’t there be some penalty for their defiling our very citizenship by entering the country illegally? And, isn’t the denial of the right to vote an appropriate penalty?

No matter what your position is regarding immigration reform, this question on granting citizenship and the right to vote to those who have entered this country illegally is one to which each of us should respond. And, attending Monday’s Council meeting would be good way to do so.

Besides the police power of deporting illegal immigrants, what power does the city of Marco Island have on that issue?

Why would the city government waste time on issues they have no judicial power over?

It's Time to deal with island issues! One of them is to get the local water rates back to a reasonable amount!

Let the politicians in our state and national government use the courts to deal with the issue of illegal immigrants!

>>> No! Illegal immigrants have shown all the initiative and moxie desired in new citizens.

>>> Do you think you have what it takes to sneak across the burning desert into Mexico?

>>> What we should do is welcome the illegals and revoke the voting rights for all those who have decided to retire into the Obama Food Stamp nation of indolence & vice. These are the parasites we have to get rid of!

>>> Peruse this year's Intel Science Talent Search 2013 Finalists:

Very few have Waspy names. These are the kind of people we need to welcome if this country hopes to transcend the metastatic Federal dependency establishment & compete with the brains of Asia....
