Deputies: Man bounced $33K in checks to buy gold, silver

A North Naples man is facing felony charges after he was accused of writing more than $33,000 worth of bad checks to purchase gold and silver.

Richard F. Bing, 71, of the 1200 block of Sara Jean Circle, is facing charges of grand theft and obtaining property by fraud.

The owner of a local rare coin shop told Collier County sheriff’s deputies in November that Bing had written eight checks for $33,360 to purchase gold and silver. The checks were ultimately returned by Bing’s bank, according to an incident report.

The owner of the shop told deputies that he contacted Bing about the bad checks. Bing told the owner that he would wire him the money, but never did, reports said.

Reports said Bing’s driver license is suspended because the check he submitted for payment bounced. He was arrested Thursday afternoon at home.
