Q: What is going on on the corner of Collier Boulevard and Rattlesnake Hammock? Some beautiful pine trees are cut down. Surely a paper company has not bought this beautiful piece of land. Please let us all know.
— Theresa Daddono, East Naples
Q: What is happening on the east side of the intersection of Rattlesnake Hammock and 951? A massive land clearing has been going on there for several months. Thank you.
— Mary G., East Naples
A: You are seeing construction of the first phase of Hacienda Lakes, a 2,262-acre mixed-use planned development that will wrap around the Florida Sports Park, Collier County Sheriff’s Junior Deputy League camp, and Physicians Regional Medical Center-Collier Boulevard in East Naples.
Located east of Collier Boulevard at Rattlesnake Hammock Road, Hacienda Lakes is planned to include more than 1,600 homes, as well as retail businesses, medical offices, a nursing care center and a school. Rattlesnake Hammock Road is expected to be extended about three-quarters of a mile east of Collier Boulevard.
The mixed-use development proposes up to 327,500 square feet of retail space, 70,000 square feet of professional and medical office space, 135 hotel rooms, a 140,000-square-foot business park, and a public school. More than 1,500 acres will be left as a preserve area in the development, projected to occur in phases over eight years, according to a news release.
Taylor Morrison Inc. has begun construction on the first residential component of Hacienda Lakes. The developer purchased a 153-acre tract for Esplanade at Hacienda Lakes, which will include 443 Mediterranean-inspired villas and single-family homes surrounded by 30 acres of lakes and conservation areas. The first model home is expected to be open next year.
