Local golf column: Second annual Sun Cup amateur tournament begins next month

The second annual Sun Cup amateur tournament will be played April 29-May 3, with the championship at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero.

Participants compete in flight/age groups in net and gross score competition. Leaders of each flight will play a championship fifth round at Old Corkscrew. Divisions are: Under 50, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over, and women’s under 50 and women’s 50 and over.

After each day, the Sun Cup Expo will be at Gulf Coast Town Center featuring food and live entertainment.

Entries are due by April 15. The entry fee is $550 or two golfers can sign up for $900, or three for $1,200, or four for $1,400.

Scott Robertson local qualifier: The prestigious Scott Robertson Memorial junior tournament, May 17-19 in Roanoke, Va., will have a local qualifier for the first time. Quail Creek Country Club will host the qualifier on Saturday, April 20. The entry fee is $100. The entry deadline is Friday, April 5.
