A North Naples man was arrested Tuesday after Collier County sheriff’s detectives say he lied about his criminal record in an attempt to purchase a gun from Wal-Mart.
Mark S. Wilson, 58, of the 4800 block of Teakwood Drive, is facing a felony charge of providing false information to purchase a firearm.
In late January, Wilson attempted to purchase a gun from the Wal-Mart near Immokalee Road and Interstate 75, according to an arrest report. As part of the process, Wilson filled out a form affirming that he had never been convicted of a felony.
However, records indicate that Wilson was convicted of felony drug charges in connection with an arrest in Ohio in 1973.
A Wal-Mart store employee confirmed that Wilson had attempted to purchase a weapon from the store. Deputies located and arrested Wilson on Tuesday as he drove his vehicle on Logan Boulevard.
