Lely High School graduate Lauren Embree of Marco Island and the University of Florida was named the SEC Player of the Week on Wednesday.
Embree, a senior, helped the No. 2 Gators beat No. 12 Georgia and No. 44 Tennessee last week. She went 3-0 in singles and doubles, with both singles wins against top-20 opponents. Both were clinching, dual-match victories.
Embree beat No. 20 Brynn Boren in straight sets for her 29th consecutive victory in dual-match singles. She improved to 34-0 all-time in SEC dual match singles contests.
The victories also put Embree at 107 career wins in both singles and doubles, and her 214 combined wins moved her into 10th place in school history.
Florida (11-2, 4-1 SEC) returns to the home courts on Friday against No. 8 Alabama, and No. 18 Auburn on Sunday.
