FGC-Who? Confusion over name of university

FGC ... That’s who!

Florida Gulf Coast University became a household name on Friday night, sort of. Social media users and television broadcasters just didn’t know how to refer to the 15th-seeded Eagles. The school prefers to be observed as Florida Gulf Coast University, FGCU or the Eagles.

FGCU, which defeated Georgetown 78-68 in the NCAA tournament’s Round of 64, trended on Twitter under a handful of names, including: FGCU; Florida Gulf Coast University; Florida Gulf Coast; Gulf Coast; Fla. Gulf Coast; Florida GC; Florida Gulf Coast College; FLGC; FGCC; and FGC.
