— A Naples man was seriously injured Thursday in a two-vehicle rollover crash in East Naples.

Alfred James "A.J." Micieli III, 22, was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers after the crash that occurred about 4:45 p.m. at Radio Road and Sherbrook Drive, just east of Livingston Road, said East Naples Fire Chief Kingman Schuldt.

Micieli is an assistant football coach at Naples High School and played linebacker on the Golden Eagles 2007 State Championship team.

Rescue workers had to work to extricate Micieli, who was entrapped in his vehicle after it rolled over multiple times before coming to rest on its side, Schuldt said.

According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, Micieli was driving a 2009 Nissan Versa east on Radio Road when he made a left turn at Sherbrook Drive into the path of a 2007 Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle that was westbound in the inside lane.

The front of the SUV, driven by Lucia Maria Gooding, 54, of East Naples, struck the right side of Micieli’s car. Upon impact, the Nissan rotated counter-clockwise and overturned onto its right side.

Gooding was treated on scene for minor injuries in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the FHP reports.

Charges are pending, according to the FHP report.
