Letter to the Editor: It took an island

I wish to express my deep appreciation to all those who helped us achieve our beautiful standard flower show Asian Fusion, March 16 and 17. It truly took an island and beyond to accomplish.

First we thank The Marco Island Center for the Arts, with Lynn Holley executive director, and the board of directors, who graciously donated their facility and help in staging the event. They incorporated the Asian Infusion art show in their main gallery and hosted an arts and crafts show outside which the public supported with their attendance.

The Naples Players, Sugden Community Theatre graciously loaned the Asian costumes from Japan, China and Korea which established the show’s theme. The cooperation between the art communities should be loudly hailed!

I would like to acknowledge the stage material construction donated by Bobbie Reiman, R.K. Reiman Construction Inc. of Marco Island. Thank you also to the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. for supplying us with the show judges.

I would also like to recognize Just Like Rain Lawn Fertilization & Pest Control, Landscaper’s Choice, SandiSellsMarco.com, Iberia Bank, Horizons Realty, Jade Ochides, South Naples Citrus, Donna Kay, Island Garden Center and High Velocity Hurricane Protector for their strong support of the show.

The Calusa Garden Club offers the flower show as a gift to the community; there is no charge for the event as is the practice of other shows. These generous sponsors are to be commended as well as our members for enabling the show to happen.

It truly “takes an island” and beyond to pull off this cultural event for Marco Island.
