Letter to the Editor: Thank you Marco Island

We want to thank our Marco Island community for its support of our fifth annual Marco Island Bridge Run. Five years ago, we began with a 10 mile race. We later expanded it to a half marathon and then added live music on the course. This year we further added a 5K race to the event.

This was by far our most successful year. We reached 500 runners and we had over two dozen sponsors and more than 80 of you joined us as volunteers. The race is a charity event serving local organizations. This year’s beneficiaries are the Police and Fire-Rescue Foundations, the YMCA, the Charter Middle School, the Optimists Club, and the Parks & Recreation Department.

Of all of the special events which our island has, we take pride in the fact that in addition to our island participants, we have had runners from over 15 states and several foreign countries. For many of the runners and their families, the race has been their introduction to Marco Island. Each and every one compliments not only the challenge of our race and the beauty of our island, but also our sense of community.

We invite all of you to join us next year, whether as runners, sponsors, volunteers, or simply spectators. It has always been and will always be a memorable event.
