— The manager of a Fifth Avenue South cupcake shop is accused of stealing art from a downtown art show.

Daniel Paul Vogel, 30, of the 1000 block of Frank Whiteman Boulevard, Naples, is facing a felony charge of grand theft.

Just before 4 a.m. Sunday, a security guard on foot patrol at the outdoor art festival noticed a man, later identified as Vogel, attempting to enter a tent belonging to an artist, according to an arrest report. When Vogel noticed the guard, reports said he fled and entered Grace & Shelly’s Cupcakes shop.

The guard later reported seeing Vogel running with a painting, again entering the cupcake shop. A Naples police officer responded to the scene and made contact with Vogel, who admitted to stealing the $550 painting, reports said.

Officers later found two stolen photographs behind the counter of the cupcake store and a silver ring in his clothing. When asked where he obtained the ring, Vogel said he did not know, reports said.

An owner of the cupcake shop said Vogel is no longer employed there.
