Car accident near school bus

Accident endangers students boarding bus.

The driver of an Oldsmobile who was driving erratically and crashed into a minivan Wednesday morning in San Carlos Park has been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital.

Dean Charles Farkas, of the 8200 block of Lake San Carlos Circle, crashed into the minivan just before 9 a.m. near Lee Road and Tahiti Road. The van was stopped near a bus stop where students were boarding.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate. A DUI investigation in pending.

EARLIER

Lee Road in San Carlos Park reopened this morning, about an hour after the 9 a.m. crash, San Carlos Park Fire Battalion Chief Jose Orama said.

The driver of the tan car involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Orama said. Two other people were also hospitalized.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

EARLIER

A one-car crash this morning closed a Lee County road.

The car, which witnesses say was driving erratically, crashed along Lee Road near Tahiti Road in San Carlos Park shortly before 9 a.m., officials said. Lee Road is just south of Alico Road.
