Contractors last month pulled 66 permits to build single-family houses with a collective value of nearly $11 million in unincorporated Lee County, which excludes cities.

That was a 17 percent decrease from the 79 permits issued in March and a 94 percent increase over the 39 issued in April 2012, the Lee County Department of Community Development reported.

Also, 65 multifamily units were permitted in April compared with eight in March. Two permits for multifamily units were issued in April 2012.

Lee County Community Development oversees planning, zoning, development and building services, environmental review, building inspection and code enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Lee.

Fla. Senate approves changes to Lee TDC

A proposed change to the Lee County Tourist Development Council cleared another hurdle Wednesday.

The Florida Senate on Wednesday approved a measure that would change how the Lee County TDC is made up. The measure revises the composition of the Lee County board, so that one of two seats filled by an elected municipal official rotates biennially between elected officials in the cities that generate the highest and second-highest tourist tax revenue. The second seat rotates between the remaining municipal elected officials.

The Senate passed the bill 39-0. The change would go into effect upon becoming law.

Priority Marketing wins national award

Priority Marketing has won a bronze Telly award for its role in the creative direction and production of three Avow television commercials.

Produced with members of the Avow advancement team and One Stone Media, the winning campaign featured a family testimonial and two re-enactments that highlighted Avow services, including specialized end-of-life care to those living with a life-threatening illness and support to those who care for them. Avow is a Naples hospice.

The Telly awards are a national competition honoring local, regional and national television commercials and programs, as well as video, film and web productions.
