Letter to the Editor: Weigh in on new city manager

To the citizens of Marco Island: Your City Council voted to begin the process of selecting a new city manager by asking search firms to submit proposals for our review. We hope to get many responses and to select a smaller number of search firms to interview in person.

An important part of the search firm’s work will be seeking candidates who match the criteria we outline – that is, what kinds of things are we looking for in a candidate.

In upcoming meetings, there will be opportunity for citizens to weigh in with ideas. But many persons are unable to attend the meetings, so please email the City Council directly with your ideas and suggestions: the collective email address, so that all of us receive the same email, is Council@MarcoCityCouncil.com.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this important process.

Elect a mayor!

Save the city money searching for a city manager every 2 years.

OK Larry -- What happened with your statement that since you were elected by the residents of Marco Island, you were totally qualified to make decisions for its people and didn't need any input from anyone? That type of arrogance is what got several of the people thrown off last time. Please remember, you are there to serve all of the electorate.
Glad to hear you are requesting input.

Hello "marcofriend," and thanks for your comments. However, let's get the record straight. I never said, ever, that I felt "totally qualified to make decisions for its people and didn't need any input from anyone." I did say that I don't favor using the referendum process for certain matters that City Council is empowered to decide in our representative type of government. I assure you I am always eager for input, advice, suggestions and arguments. I do tend to be forceful, but that's not a mask for arrogance -- it's indicative of my passion for preserving and enhancing our way of life on this spectacular Island.

We should be thankful that Mr.Honig publically invited citizens to give input into the process
of listing the priorities Council should establish for a potential manager.

Time to elect a Mayor form of government and stop this clowning around every two years.

How much taxpayer money has been spent in the past ten years looking for a city manager?

The only way the people of Marco can insure we elect a person favored by a majority of it's people, is a mayoral form of government.

it's time for the city to work smart,

Let the people VOTE!

Some of the things that come with a mayor led government: Increased government size. Higher tax rates to support a newly formed department of personel. A new revised city charter that all coucilors would agree on. Lastly and most important; will only occur when hell freezes over.

August8 Why don't you stand up and identify yourself at the next meeting. I would like to see that one.
