Brien Spina, co-owner of Captain Brien's Off the Hook Comedy Club in Marco Island, expanded his seafood restaurant in 2005 into a comedy club. Now it has become one of the premier destinations for comedians in southwest Florida - drawing in national acts like Tom Green, Lynne Koplitz, Jo Koy and Jackie Mason.

— Capt. Brien Spina, owner of the Off the Hook Comedy Club on Marco Island, has recently announced plans to relocate to Bonita Springs.

According to a press release, Capt. Brien has secured a 4-acre property at the corner of Imperial and Bonita Beach Road, which he intends to transform into a one-of-a-kind entertainment complex.

“We simply outgrew our venue in Marco Island,” said Capt. Brien. “Our goal was to find a location that was both business-friendly and central enough to serve all our customers. Bonita Springs offered just what we needed.”

According to the release, the new 27,000 square foot facility will add approximately 200 plus new jobs to the area, boasting a variety of show-stopping amenities, including two signature restaurants featuring a world-class chef and a Spanish style Sangria bar which will feature a stunning Sangria Waterfall cascading from its 40' ceiling. The facility also plans to house the world’s first Podcast Cafe and Lounge where guests can enjoy an array of handmade desserts and delightful coffee drinks while producing their very own podcast free of charge.

The new venue, which is slated to begin construction this summer, will continue Off The Hook Comedy Club’s successful 8-year tradition of showcasing a mix of internationally known comedians, and up-and-comers to enthusiastic Southwest Florida audiences. It also plans to attract new revenues – and tourism – by making its state-of-the-art venue available for rental to host banquets, weddings, corporate and group events.

Capt. Brien envisions that the move will provide a wide range of growth opportunities, both for the Comedy Club and for the community.

“People love to laugh and enjoy a great meal,” said Spina, “but they don’t want to go bankrupt doing it. Our goal is to create a venue offering great comedy, fabulous food and an outstanding facility for the surrounding communities to enjoy.”

The Marco Island venue will remain a restaurant, and shows will continue there until the new club opens by the end of the year, or early 2014.

Nancy Carrington, president of the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce, said that because Spina will maintain his current restaurant, the impact on the island’s economy will be minimized.

“If he’s keeping the restaurant open ... I don’t see that as a problem,” Carrington said.

Off The Hook Comedy Club opened in 2005, in Marco Island. The club is located inside of Capt Brien’s Seafood and Raw Bar.

Off The Hook Comedy Club has staged over a thousand comedians, and was the first comedy club to book Tom Green, and feature “Jackass star Steve-O.” The venue has produced shows featuring the biggest comedians in the country including Mike Epps, Carlos Mencia, Kevin Hart, Gabriel Inglesias, Eddie Griffin and many more.

"Sangria Waterfall cascading from its 40' ceiling."

Never figured out why this Comedy Club was located in Marco.

Brien is a dynamo of energy.

With the bold tackiness of this humungous sangria concept, these bars should be a big hit in (always) transitional Bonita....

A real loss for Marco. Now there is going to be even less to do at night.

I'm so excited for this place. Tacky or not, a sangria waterfall does sound awesome. Been going to the one on Marco since it opened.
