Bobby Gideons, 78, a well-known entertainer for more than 40 years in the area, has died.

He passed away on Wednesday as a result of ALS ( amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in Eustis, while staying with his daughter Shannon Mueller. Survivors also include his wife Sharon, son Michael of Naples and daughter Diane Rymer of Cleveland, Tenn. and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on May 25 at Lacoochee First Baptist Church in Lacoochee, near Dade City.

Michael Gideons said his father will be cremated and placed in the family cemetery in Linden, Florida.

“We lost a great entertainer and great friend,” said Mike Ward, owner of Erin’s Isle Irish Pub, who started out with Gideons at the Olde Marco Inn on Marco Island 40 years ago. Ward was a bartender and Gideon the entertainer.

Ward has tentative plans of having a memorial service at Erin’s Isle on June 23.
