Letter to the Editor: Sad note

It was 26 years ago that I was invited to sing in Goodland Florida with the “Paradise Jazz band,” lead by Pianist Bob Gideons. He was famous for his theatrics at the keyboard, bouncing up and down and playing that left handed bass, fast and furious. He knew everybody’s favorite song when they came in, with the hope of getting a seat at the piano bar.

His love for a good joke and teasing his friends was as famous as his incredible talent for moving his fingers up and down his keyboard without much effort. After being on the road for so many years, and his encouraging me to make Florida my home, I was able to live in Paradise, buy my first home and meet my husband and make friends with the most wonderful people on earth. He was the heart and soul of all who loved music and a good time.

He once said to me, that with the passing of so many people, his piano bar was getting smaller and now the “chairman of the board” has left us. The only people that will be happy, are his fans that have been waiting for him at God’s piano bar. I can hear them saying, “Well its about time, now let’s hear my favorite song played by the best.”

We All love you Bobby and you will be missed by all who knew you. I wish I could have one more V.O. and Water with you, and tell you thank you for everything.

Thank you for writing the note...we missed the obit. This guy was stunningly agile and talented...never heard that exact style of piano work before or since and he loved to interact with his audiences. Irreplaceable.
