Prep football: Gulf Coast sophomores to get playing time in spring game

LaBelle at Gulf Coast (Friday, 7 p.m.):

Sharks coach Pete Fominaya is eager to see how much his program has grown from Year 1 to Year 2.

“We hope to see some growth and some breakout performances,” Fominaya said. “For many of these kids, this will be their first taste of live action.”

Fominaya said he could start anywhere from eight to 10 rising sophomores in the game, including quarterback Will Sheriffs.

“It will be interesting to see how our young kids react to the bright lights on Friday night,” Fominaya said.
