Marco Island teen critically injured overnight after crashing pickup into tree

— A Marco Island teen was critically injured overnight in a crash on Collier Boulevard in East Naples.

Timothy Mark Unsderfer, 18, is in critical condition this morning in Lee Memorial Hospital after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash that occurred just before 1 a.m. Friday on Collier Boulevard near Capri Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Unsderfer was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger at a high rate of speed south on Collier Boulevard in the outside lane when he lost control of the pickup and drove left of center and struck a tree in the median. The truck overturned and he was ejected from the vehicle.

A passenger in the pickup, Gabrielle Marie Sampson, 16, also of Marco, received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to NCH Hospital in Naples.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, but it is unknown if the passenger was wearing a seat belt, FHP reports show.

Charges are pending an investigation, FHP reports.
