November 4, 2013, CAPTIVA, FLORIDA – Today, local Marco Island resident Lauren Embree won her second round Singles Qualifying match at the Women’s Pro Classic at the South Seas Island Resort to advance to the Singles Qualifying getting underway Tuesday. Along with Embree, other players winning their Singles Qualifying matches earlier today include Anastasiya Komardina, Marrie Norris, Maria Fernanda-Alves, Brooke Austin, Jacqueline Cako, Denise Muresan and Chiara Scholl.
Also on Monday, the Main Draw for Singles and Doubles were released along with top seeded players being announced including Michelle Larcher De Britto of Portugal claiming the #1 seed in the Singles Draw followed by Mandy Minella of Luxembourg as the #2 seed. Emerging future American tennis stars seeded in the Singles Main Draw include Melanie Oudin (#3), Maria Sanchez (#4), Julia Cohen (#6) and Victoria Duval (#7).
Starting on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., the Singles Qualifying and Main Draw will swing into action with local Lauren Embree scheduled to play first match on against Anastasiya Komardina on Stadium Court followed by fellow Americans Nicole Gibbs vs. Samantha Crawford and top seeds Maria Sanchez (#4) and Julia Cohen (#6). Top seed Michelle Larcher De Britto will be the last singles match on Stadium Court when she plays American Sanaz Marand. To celebrate the first day of play for the Singles Main Draw, anyone who comes out to the South Seas Island Resort and wears pink will get a complimentary drink ticket for Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille. On Wednesday, American tennis star Melanie Oudin (seeded #3) will play her first round of Singles with match times to be announced Tuesday.

In the Main Draw of Doubles, the #1 seed was awarded to American Allie Will and Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski with Maria Fernanda-Alves of Brazil and Catalina Costana of Colombia taking the #2 seed. Main Draw Doubles action will also get underway on Tuesday with the first doubles match scheduled for not before 12:00 p.m. when local Doubles Wild Card recipients Kerry Kendricks and Angie Guillette get things started.
The Women’s Pro Classic is a $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit Women’s Event and the final opportunity for players to obtain WTA Tour points in the U.S. to qualify for the 2014 Australian Open. Of those in the Singles Main Draw, Melanie Oudin, who has been ranked as high as #31 in the WTA Tour Singles Rankings, is known for her thrilling run at the 2009 US Open where she defeated Maria Sharapova to advance to the Quarterfinals. Just this summer, Victoria Duval captured the hearts of Americans at the 2013 US Open after defeating Grand Slam Singles Champion Sam Stosur in the first round. In addition to this, Taylor Townsend has had breakthrough junior accomplishments on her way to playing the USTA Pro Circuit events winning the Junior Australian Open Singles Championship in 2012 and finishing the year ranked number one in Girls Singles Junior ITF World rankings.
The South Seas Island Resort Women’s Pro Classic is being held at the award-winning South Seas Island Resort in beautiful Captiva, Florida from November 3rd-10th at the Pavel & Blackwood Tennis Academy. The Main Draw Singles and Doubles play will begin on Tuesday, November 5th, with the Finals taking place on Sunday, November 10th. Throughout the week, the Women’s Pro Classic will showcase world class tennis from bringing the game’s emerging and future tennis stars to the area while benefiting three local philanthropic causes – the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, Madisen’s Match and Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Inc.
