Letter: From Chris Curry

From Chris Curry

I would like to thank the citizens of this community for the overwhelming support you have given me as executive director of the Collier County Airport Authority over the past three years.

The airports were relatively unknown to the community, and the infrastructure and operations did not always meet Federal Aviation Authority compliance. We have been able to make incredible progress.

I am also thankful for the support and well wishes I have received since the Board of County Commissioners decided to not extend my initial contract.

Perhaps we met when I was speaker at the chambers of commerce, Rotary, Kiwanis, Pelican Bay Men’s Coffee, Leadership Collier or Shadowlawn Elementary School graduation ceremony. Perhaps our paths crossed during my visit to Lely High School or M.A. Milam Elementary School in Hialeah when I spoke to kids about careers.

Perhaps we worked together for county government as colleagues/staff or Airport Advisory Board members providing expert recommendations, or those commissioners who were working for the good of the county and also to expose those who were not; or the NAACP working to increase membership.

Perhaps we spoke at Publix, on the golf course, at a restaurant, the Balloons Over Paradise event and Aviation Day at Immokalee airport, or at a high school football game.

The Collier County airport job provided me with the platform to do so much more than manage the airports. Many of you have asked, how do I maintain my professional behavior in the midst of what many perceived as an unethical and unprofessional environment? The simple answer is that every day you have provided me with encouragement and support that made my task very easy.

Therefore, I will exit in the same professional manner with which I arrived and say thank you so much for the opportunity.
