Tropical Storm Karen is not headed toward Southwest Florida, but will be a big influence on local weather here.

We start this morning and continue through much of the day with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures are in the mid 70s this morning and will top out in the upper 80s this afternoon.

Tropical Storm Karen is a bit farther out into the Gulf of Mexico and is tightening up, pulling much of the moisture into the storm. That could give our region a bit of a break today, compared to the downpours of Thursday afternoon and evening.

The emphasis there is on the word "could". If Karen were to make any slight turn toward the east, then local rain coverage could increase. Expect about 40 to 50 percent of the area, mostly along the coast, to see rain today.
