A former employee of Island Trends in Marco Island is accused of stealing from the business.

Silvana Presiga, 32, of the 2100 block of 23rd Street, Golden Gate Estates, was arrested by Marco Island police on Friday on a charge of scheme to defraud. According to reports, she made fraudulent purchases in excess of $2,300 at the retail store, using gift certificates and past customers’ information.

She’s accused of making eight purchases between Nov. 9, 2012 and Sept. 6, 2013, under three different names, billing accounts and addresses.

Packages were sent to her home and two other addresses, but Presiga told officers she picked up all of them.

Presiga worked for Island Trends for about two years.

Good advice for anyone who shopped at this store during the time Presiga was employed is to look at your credit card bills for that month and the following few months following your purchases.

Who knows what irregularities may be found.
