EAST NAPLES — A car struck a pedestrian Saturday night in East Naples and the man was in critical condition Sunday.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the man was trying to cross U.S. 41 East on foot near Palm Street when a car hit him about 11:30 p.m.
The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was transported by Collier County’s Med-Flight to Lee Memorial Hospital and he remained critical, FHP reported.
The driver was Robert C. Jimenez Velasquez, 24, of Naples, reports stated.
Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Velasquez was driving a 2013 Jetta east on U.S. 41 when the pedestrian crossed the street mid-block, heading south near Palm.
Velasquez swerved to try and avoid him but the right front corner of his car struck the man. The car came to a stop in the center lane facing east. The pedestrian landed in the outside lane of U.S. 41 East.
Alcohol was not considered a factor for the driver but may have been for the pedestrian, FHP reported.
