A Louisiana man wanted for murder was captured in Everglades City on Tuesday morning by Collier County deputies.

Alan Virgil Brumfield, 48, of Natchitoches Parish, La., told Collier County sheriff's deputies he had been camping in the Everglades on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Brumfield is a suspect in an Oct. 13 home invasion and shooting in his hometown. Collier deputies released his photo Monday when an abandoned rental car found in Ochopee was traced to him.

"We got a tip based on the news release and photo we put out, so that led us to the Everglades City area where we located Mr. Brumfield walking along U.S. 41 East near the 59th mile marker," sheriff's spokeswoman Michelle Batten said.

Brumfield is being held at the Naples Jail Center awaiting extradition to Louisiana.

Batten said Brumfield was arrested without incident and was being cooperative.
