5-year-old girl seriously injured in Naples Manor crash

A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a crash in Naples Manor.

The crash happened on the 5200 block of Fleming Street around 4 p.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said Donald E. Miller, 81, was driving his Toyota Camry around a parked ice cream truck when the girl, 5-year-old Melany Cruz, darted in front of the ice cream truck and ran into the passenger side of his car.

Cruz was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Troopers determined Miller was not at fault, and he was not cited in the crash.
