Get ready to meet your new neighbor, Marco Island.

After years of visiting Southwest Florida, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner will have more opportunities to work on his tan after purchasing a home on Marco Island earlier this month.

“This area of Florida has been the Boehners’ family vacation spot for many years, and rather than continue to put money into vacation rentals year after year, they decided to buy a condo,” said Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner.

Boehner and his wife, Deborah, purchased a unit at the Tampico, 930 Cape Marco Drive, on Feb. 11 for $835,000, according to the deed recorded Feb. 14 with the Collier Clerk of Courts. The couple has a 20-year mortgage for $650,000 that comes due March 1, 2034.

The Tampico is a 14-story beach front complex on the Gulf of Mexico. The community features three-bedroom, three-bathroom homes with a “full range of amenities well suited to luxurious Florida beach front lifestyles,” according to a local real estate website.

The community has units ranging from 2,060- to 2,700 square feet under air.

According to Zillow, a real estate appraisal and shopping website, the unit the Boehners purchased is 2,093 square feet and features a balcony and high ceilings.

Boehner is no stranger to Southwest Florida. He and his family have been visiting the area for years, and Boehner can often be spotted at popular spots around town.

“We certainly welcome everyone to Southwest Florida,” said Mike Lyster, chairman of the Collier County GOP.

Tops on Boehner’s list of favorite spots — Stan’s Idle Hour, a hopping seasonal entertainment spot in Goodland.

Boehner and owner Stan Gober were friends for about 10 years before Gober’s death in 2012. In a 2010 interview with the Marco Eagle, Gober said Boehner “loves coming down here.”

The pair met when Gober was doing one of his Sunday shows at the Goodland bar. Gober was doing jokes about President Bill Clinton and Boehner wanted to meet him afterward. In his 2010 interview, Gober said Boehner “has a great sense of humor.”

During a visit a few years ago, the Ohio Republican brought Gober a flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol.

When Gober died, Boehner said that even though the two didn’t share the same politics they got along well.

“Stan was a good friend and a great guy,” he said in a statement at the time. “I’ll miss him.”

Steel, however, is quick to point out that the Boehners have no intention of making Southwest Florida their home base.

“Their home is in West Chester, Ohio, and will continue to be,” he said.

It also shouldn’t be taken as a sign Boehner is looking to take a smaller role in the House, Steel said. Boehner has said publicly he intends to be Speaker of the House in the next Congress, and the recent home purchase won’t change that.

Boehner isn’t the only big name in national politics buying property in Southwest Florida. Late last year, James Biden Sr., brother of Vice President Joe Biden, purchased a home on nearby Keewaydin Island.

The Biden family — including the vice president — spent a few days at the beginning of the year on the 5-acre property.

Obviously people such as yourself who has moved to at least 3 rentals in the last 6 years don't care but anyone with brains and class does. That totally leaves a me in and you way out there.

Welcome John and Deborah to a wonderful place to live.

Maybe we could all get together with Speaker Boehner at Stan's and talk local politics. Green light for the new bridge?
